You Hate To Say I Told You So

The Randy Rogers Band is back in El Paso tonight. Check the concert section below to find the link to all the information about the show at Whiskey Dick’s.

Predictions came true last night when the bottom three were revealed on Dancing With The Stars. They’ve been hanging in the fray for weeks, and last night, Holly & Dmitry, Steve-O & Lacey, and Steve & Karina were made to stand under the harsh glare of the red light. What wasn’t predicted was the cancellation of the dance-off. Yay! Instead, producers went back to the encore dance which allowed viewers the chance to re-live Gilles & Cheryl’s sizzling Argentine Tango. Hot. Hot. Hot. If we have to see something again, it’s always better to see the perfect dance over one of three that stunk. It was no surprise that Holly & Dmitry were called out first, but between the Steve’s, smell-a-vision made its consumer debut because the viewers got a big whiff of Wozniack. The geek vote couldn’t save him. Steve & Karina were sent packing because Steve-O & Lacey were narrowly saved by the MTV crowd that still loves their Jacka$$. Nine couples remain in no particular order. The top four are obvious. Chulianne and Ty & Chelsie need to step it up if they want to place any better than 5th or 6th. Next week is another waltz or the Paso Double. If he gets it, the Paso should give Ty a chance to shine. Granted, bull riding is different than bull fighting, but what better way to let him be a tough, alpha male than with a dance where he imagines he’s in a ring with a bull? Waltzing would be cute for Chulianne, but they’ve done that. So perhaps Chuck Wicks will trade in his paper hat for the matador costume as well:

News From Around The Country
The ACM’s are on Sunday night. We already know two winners, which is great news for Brad Paisley, except for the fact that he is cheated out of more TV time. Brad has been consistently winning the video of the year categories at a lot the country awards in recent years, but they never televise his category. They just give him the award – in advance no less! “Waitin' On A Woman” (with Andy Griffith) is the Video Of The Year, and the Brad Paisley-Keith Urban duet “Start A Band” wins Vocal Event Of The Year. The flashy performances are set for Sunday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and while they're at it, maybe they might give out a few awards during the course of the award show.

Tonight on TV – April Fools! Jessica Simpson and LeAnn Rimes will appear on the April Fools Day special I Get That A Lot. Jessica acts as a computer repair woman and LeAnn serves breakfast. The Eli Young Band makes their national television debut tomorrow night (4/2) on ABC-TV's Jimmy Kimmel Live. They'll perform “Always The Love Songs” and “When It Rains,” the longest running independent single in chart history.

Around the web:
When Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman chose to name their daughter Sunday, the natural question began to pop up immediately. Why Sunday? Apparently, Antony Kidman, Nicole’s dad, told the Australia Daily Telegraph that it was he and his wife’s idea. "I have read a bit about Sunday Reed and her husband John — she was a key mover and shaker in the arts around the beginning of the century," he said. The name Sunday struck him as being a nice name for a woman, so he mentioned it to Nicole and Keith. Sunday Reed had a relationship with the artist Sidney Nolan, and when Nicole visited a Nolan exhibit, it featured a quote from the artist about birth: "When you are young you are given a good view of life, because of your closeness to birth." That reportedly was the clincher to name the baby Sunday. The middle name Rose is in honor of Keith's late grandmother.

Toby Keith’s movie Beer For My Horses is coming out on August 8th. The accompanying soundtrack will be out on August 5th. It will include music Toby, Willie Nelson, Trailer Choir, Ted Nugent, Gina Gershon, James McMurtry, Mac Davis, Mel Tillis, Carter’s Chord, Rodney Carrington, David Allan Coe and Mica Roberts.

The film follows the exploits of two small town deputies and best friends who defy the local sheriff to embark on an outrageous road trip to save one of their girlfriends from drug lord kidnappers. The film stars Toby Keith, his co-writer Rodney Carrington, Claire Forlani (CSI: NY), guitar legend Ted Nugent, and Barry Corbin, with special appearances by Willie Nelson and Golden Globe nominee Tom Skerritt.

Tuesday Newsday

Brock better bring home some flowers tonight, because it’s Barbra Jean’s birthday! Melissa Peterman is 37. Enjoy the memories from the Reba McEntire concert last October at the Pan Am Center by clicking on Reba in the Live Music Video Bar.

Speaking of live concerts in the area, if you’re in the mood to drive into the mountains this summer, there’s more to see than just Lonestar and Cross Canadian Ragweed at the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack. How about a trip to the Inn of the Mountain Gods to see Clint Black on July 13th, Trace Adkins on August 8th, or Sugarland on September 4th? More on these concerts later. Another show that is a little closer is the Randy Rogers Band, in El Paso for the first time on July 9th at Take II. Stay tuned to win tickets.

Another former American Idol contestant is hanging out a shingle in Nashville. Simon told her that she was a “country singer,” so Kristy Lee Cook from Season 7 has signed with 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville. She will be recording her debut album between stops on the Idols Live Tour, and her first single should be sent to radio later this summer. When it gets here, we’ll add her to our collection of Idols here at The Country Station: Carrie Underwood, Bucky Covington, Josh Gracin, Kellie Pickler, Phil Stacey, Kelly Clarkson, and Carmen Rasmussen.

From the pages of country music’s history come two artists who not only shared the same record label and producer but had some of the best-remembered country singles of the 1960s. The Statler Brothers and Tom T. Hall were officially added to the Country Music Hall of Fame on Sunday. Both honorees were presented with their symbolic Hall of Fame medallions in front of an audience of Hall members, as well as their mutual producer, Jerry Kennedy.

During the ceremony, Tom T. Hall, The Storyteller, apologized for his 72-year-old-voice’s aged rendition of “Old Dogs, Children, and Watermelon Wine.” And after nearly six years since they last sang together, The Statlers didn’t miss a beat when they sang “I’ll Go To My Grave Loving You.” If you ever make it to the Hall, you’ll see departed member Lew DeWitt recognized on the Statler’s Hall of Fame plaque, right alongside enduring members Don and Harold Reid, Phil Balsley, and Jimmy Fortune. The sound bite of the night was from Jimmy Fortune. When thanking his children – all seven of them – Jimmy quipped, “I went broke makin’ Fortunes.”

In a separate ceremony nine weeks ago, Emmy Lou Harris and the late Ernest “Pop” Stoneman were also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

And finally, here’s a cute picture: Miranda Lambert and her dog, Hank Lambert-Shelton. Blake Shelton actually found the dog while he was fishing some time ago. Er, the dog found Blake. When it became apparent that the dog wasn’t going to go anywhere, they kept him, named him Hank to match all of Miranda’s other pets named after music legends, and now Blake sings to him - “Hanky Doodle Dandy.”
