Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s publicists have dropped a bomb. We are just learning that Keith and Nicole are the proud parents of Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, a biological daughter born December 28th in Nashville by a gestational carrier. The couple issued a statement saying, "Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret. No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier." Faith Margaret joins two-and-a-half year old sister Sunday Rose. The young sisters also have a stepbrother and stepsister: Connor and Isabella who were adopted by Nicole and Tom Cruise.

News From Around The Country
From the gossip department, it looks like an on-screen romance is spilling over into the real world. Country Strong co-stars Leighton Meester and Garrett Hedlund were seen partying together after the Golden Globes on Sunday night at HBO‘s bash at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. One anonymous partygoer is spreading word that the two were “inseparable the entire night.” …… Kid Rock just celebrated his 40th birthday with a star-studded bash in Detroit on Saturday night. A-list friends like Martina McBride, Sheryl Crow, Uncle Kracker, and Cindy Crawford were among the more than 60,000 fans who attended a three-hour concert spectacular. For his birthday, Kid got an award from the City of Detroit and a customized 2011 Camaro SS from Chevrolet. Kid was also giving back on his night of gift getting, donating $25-thousand each to four Detroit-area charities. ….. And finally, the new season of American Idol premieres tomorrow night on FOX. The new season brings the much-hyped new judges, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. Host Ryan Seacrest is back again. Time will tell if the new format is acceptable, or if Idol has seen its better days.

It Sure Is Monday

Happy Monday! …trusting that you had a safe and pleasant 4th of July. With so many country artists “working” on the holiday at fairs and festivals across the country, it’s ironic that it’s otherwise slow in the world of country music this morning.

News From Around The Country
It’s been announced that Shooter Jennings' fiancĂ©, Drea de Matteo, is moving to Wisteria Lane to join the cast of Desperate Housewives for the show's sixth season. Big Wins For Pittsburg, Evansville, and Detroit

It's the morning after the Super Bowl, Pittsburg is reeling in its victory, and our town is recovering from its holiday hangover. Yesterday afternoon, the streets in town were as quiet as Christmas Day. Local businesses felt the lack of Sunday customers as most seemed to be home watching the Steelers knock down the Cardinals. Or they were just conserving all the cheap gas that's in the tank from last week.

Taylor Swift will launch her first headlining nationwide tour on April 23rd in Evansville, Indiana. Kellie Pickler will open the Fearless Tour 2009 which will hit 56 cities in the U-S, Canada and Australia over the span of six months. In most markets, ticket prices will start at 20 dollars plus local fees. The four part harmonies of new group Gloriana will open the show. The closest the tour is coming to the southwest region is May 21 in Phoenix. Meanwhile,Taylor’s line of dresses she’s been working on for the country’s largest retailer is almost ready. The dresses should be available next month and be priced around a mere 14-dollars.

Kid Rock has been memorialized in fabric. This past Friday night, Kid was on hand at the Palace in Detroit for the rising of a permanent banner in his honor to recognize the 18 shows he’s sold out over time at the arena and its sister venue. His banner has been added to those recognizing Alan Jackson and Neil Diamond, who have also been regular sell-outs at the Detroit venues for the last two decades.

Christmas With The Stars
It’s Christmas Eve, which means pasta night at the McGraw-Hill house. Every year, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill celebrate the holidays in a very special way – they have an Italian meal. Tim says there is a very good reason why they do pasta for Christmas, “I’m a Heinz 57, of course, but a lot of Italian American heritage in my family. My mother’s maiden name is D’Agastino and my grandpop was Giovanni Josipa D’Agastino, so we’ve always had pasta – homemade pasta and sauce every Christmas Eve. So, we continue to do that in our family, so every Christmas Eve is our pasta night and we have friends and family over.” Tim also admits to playing his wife’s new Christmas album, Joy to the World, a lot this holiday season.

Next week, keep an eye out for the Hee Haw float during the 120th Tournament Of Roses Parade in Pasadena. In the spirit of this year's parade theme, Hats Off to Entertainment, RFD-TV will enter the parade with a float designed around one of the longest running variety shows in TV history. The float will be decorated with six of the nearly three dozen rose varieties from the Nashville Music Garden, a one-of-a-kind rose garden that honors the singers, industry leaders and songwriters of the Nashville music industry. The roses included on the float will be the Dolly Parton, the Reba McEntire, the Little Jimmy Dickens, the Amy Grant, the Minnie Pearl and the Grand Ole Opry Rose.

The Eve of Christmas Evie

Only 2 shopping days until Christmas. Las Crucens need the reminder, because from the looks of the local stores on Monday, you’re not done! Move over “Silent Night.” Looks like Jeff Foxworthy’s got the Christmas theme song this year.

Day 1 of Group 2 voting closed with Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, and the Zac Brown Band tied for first. Although none of the three songs is showing signs of runaway voting like we saw last week. Carrie Underwood handily owns the lead, a phenomenon which is consistent with nationwide airplay. Carrie was just named the #1 Hot Country Songs Artist by Billboard, making her the most-heard country artist of 2008. Carrie reigned supreme on CMT with “Just A Dream” claiming the top spot on the list of the year’s best country music videos. She was also the most-streamed artist on CMT.com for her video “All-American Girl.”

News From Around The Country
Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s rural home in the Australian Southern Highlands might not be as rural as they thought. According to Australia’s Daily Telegraph, Keith and Nicole had no idea that a 100-unit motel and conference center is proposed to be built right next to their Bunya Hill 1878 Georgian estate. In fact, visitors at the motel would be able to peer right into the couple’s back yard. A lobby group of about 30 nearby residents is fighting the plan and approval for the build is scheduled to go before the Wingecarribee Shire Council in February.

The Recording Academy has named Gene Autry and Brenda Lee as recipients of their Lifetime Achievement Award, along with the Blind Boys Of Alabama, the Four Tops, Hank Jones, Dean Martin, and Tom Paxton. Neil Diamond has been named the MusiCares 2009 Person of the Year, so Tim McGraw and Raul Malo will perform in his honor during the annual gala. Special ceremonies from both organizations will be held during GRAMMY Week along with a formal acknowledgment of the Lifetime Achievement Award winners made during the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast from Los Angeles on February 8th.

Christmas With The Stars
It’s Evie’s first Christmas. Dierks Bentley and his wife, Cassidy, will be celebrating their 3-month-old daughter’s first holiday, and Dierks says there are some holiday traditions he grew up with that he wants to pass on to his little girl. “My family was real small back in Arizona, so we kept everything really – just the five of us,” Dierks said. “It was like the same routine every year. The Beach Boys Christmas album was always on – actually a great record and the harmonies are incredible. But like the whole Charlie Brown Christmas was like pretty much a tradition every year and um, now with Cass and Evie and my own family, we’re starting our own traditions.” Dierks recently performed at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Norway, but is now back home celebrating the holidays with his wife and daughter.

Tuesday Newsday

The keepers of country statistics have determined that George Strait has achieved more Top Ten singles than George Jones. As “Troubadour” moves up the chart, Strait tallies his 79th trip into the Top Ten. Jones is stalled at 78. Give him a few more singles and Strait should tie or best Eddy Arnold, who holds the record at 92 Top Ten Singles.

News from Around The Country:
LeAnn Rimes had to cancel three shows recently due to tonsillitis, but her time off wasn’t wasted. Construction on her new home had just been completed so she spent her time unpacking boxes with husband Dean Sheremet. Jamey Johnson has been added to the list of performers for Farm Aid. Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and the Dave Matthews Band will also perform on September 20th. Sara Evans will team up with ice skating legend Peggy Fleming on NBC’s Skating For Life special. The show will tape this October in New York City and air October 15th. Kid Rock will perform “All Summer Long” on the upcoming 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. Taylor Swift and Sheryl Crow take turns interviewing each other in the August 25th issue of US Weekly magazine. Trisha Yearwood is featured on the cover of the September edition of Redbook magazine.

And here’s one for the old timers. George Hamilton IV has made a parody out of his own 45-year-old hit and remade “Abilene” as “Gasoline.” George says, "It's funny how universal the subject is. It is not a protest song, it is just the way it is.” Let's watch a clip of the song:

Old school is pretty cool...

Thanks for checking in with the Great Country Blog today. Country music around the web finds Vince Gill planning a One-Man-Band Show. The tour is being billed as A Special Acoustic Evening with Vince Gill. Accompanied only by pianist Pete Wasner and percussionist Billy Thomas, Vince will present an array of his most notable songs along with some new material, and he will entertain the audience with numerous stories that reflect his notorious sense of humor. “In 2006 and 2007, I toured with a 17-piece band so I could reproduce the sounds of These Days, the new album I’d made,” Vince explains. “And it was a lot of fun. This year, I’m not out promoting a new album so I wanted to do something really different. Recently I saw James Taylor on his tour. It was a kind of one-man band show, with just him, a piano player and all those great songs. I really enjoyed watching it and I knew I would enjoy performing in that setting as well. So I’m going to tour basically the same way—pared down and informal.” Local Vince Gill loyals will have to travel to Mesa, AZ to see the show. (Oct. 21) That’s the closest it’s coming to the Mesilla Valley.

Big numbers are in for Randy Travis. First-week sales placed Around the Bend at number 3 on the country charts. That makes his first country release in 8 years also his highest selling first week ever, as well as his first Top Five release in his career, since Nielsen soundscan started reporting. Those are pretty good numbers after 23 years on the charts. After all, Randy Travis is one of the top ten selling solo country artists of all time. Having sold over 21 million albums, he has 22 #1 hits, six Grammy® Awards, five Country Music Association Awards, nine Academy of Country Music Awards and ten American Music Awards to his name.

Good news for Craig Morgan. While his new record label does all the work to help his new song “Love Remembers” climb the charts, Craig’s got more time to play. During that play time, Craig enjoys motorcycles and just recently won 3rd Place in the Mid-South Hare Scrambles Series motorcycle race.

Not-so-good news for Kid Rock. He's been sentenced to a year’s probation, six hours of anger management counseling, 80 hours of community service, and fined $1,000 for his role in a fight at a restaurant outside Atlanta last fall. The incident happened after Rock’s tour bus stopped at the all-night eatery after a performance. An exchange of words with a customer escalated into a fight that spilled from the restaurant into the parking lot. The “All Summer Long” singer, Robert J. Ritchie in real life, pleaded no contest to one count of simple battery. Four counts of battery were dropped. Two of his band members received similar sentences for their parts in the incident.
