Reba, LeAnn Rimes, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Vince Gill are also a part of the online movement, which is geared toward providing free financial help to every member of the U.S. military.

After releasing a statement aimed at Britney Spears, regarding her new song “Hold It Against Me,” the Bellamy Brothers have the media buzzing worldwide. Howard and David are claiming Britney “ripped off” their 1979 hit, “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body, Would You Hold It Against Me,” with her new single. Friday, the Bellamy's publicist confirmed the group has decided to "weigh their legal options." Since the story broke, media outlets world-wide have been covering the claims made by the Bellamy Brothers.

The Outdoor Channel has released its nominees for the 11th Annual Golden Moose Awards, the longest-running outdoor TV awards ceremony in the country. Craig Morgan’s show, Craig Morgan All Access Outdoors, is nominated in three categories: Best Fishing, Best Sound Design, and Best Commercial for Millennium Treestands. And finally, Gloriana’s Tom Gossin is recovering after his recent knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Tom went through most of the touring season with the injury, but finally decided it was time to take care of it. “I made it,” he tweeted after the operation. “All is well…The doctor said that my meniscus was more torn than Natalie Imbruglia,” he joked. Tom’s using the recovery time to write songs and prepare for Gloriana’s next album.

Feeling Talented This Week?

Rodney Atkins has been named as the honorary host of the 4th annual Music City Songwriting Competition, which is conducted by the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau. The CVB is holding a world-wide search for the best original song now until November 22nd. All entrants will receive a copy of Rodney’s newest album. Entries will be narrowed down to the top 25, and will be judged by a panel of music industry veterans. If you've got something good, send it in with this link.

Meanwhile, The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has launched their own contest, "They Came to Nashville", which is inspired by Marshall Chapman’s new book of the same name. Contestants can submit a personal statement expressing why they would like to go to Nashville in order try to win the Marshall’s Pick Grand Prize package. The package includes a trip to Nashville, an autographed copy of the book, and more.

News From Around The Country
Gloriana’s been honored with their first gold digital download. At a performance last week in Nashville, the quartet were given plaques from the RIAA to certify their debut single “Wild at Heart” as gold. “Wild at Heart” was the best selling single from a new country act in 2009. ….. John Rich is bringing the rock and rap to country music with his Rich Rocks Six Pak. John says that this is the perfect album to buy to get the party started, “I’ve got celebrity DJ’s over the middle of the mixes. I’ve got Kid Rock, Lil Jon, Hank Williams Jr., Cowboy Troy all on there keepin’ it going.” …. American Idol has revealed the judges for season 10, and it looks like the show is making a few other changes as well. Special genre weeks such as “Country Week” and “Frank Sinatra Night” will not be featured. Producers no longer want to make contestants outside their own genres. The styles of music are going to be more decades-based, rather than individual artists music.” The new season of the show starts in January. …. And finally, from the file of “what ever happened to…,” we catch up with Lyle Lovett. He will be a guest star on an upcoming episode of ABC’s Castle. Lyle’s character will investigate a possible alien abduction in the episode which will air in November.

It's New Music Tuesday!

Tuesday’s are album release days, so before we look at the news, let’s talk about the music that makes The Country Station, well, “country.,” According to the CD/DVD Release Date Calendar on the right, several albums are coming out today. You're hearing all the associated new singles on the air. …. This week at the station, we’ve kicked off our new music feature, so you can plan on discovering the new songs at 8:04am, 1:04pm, 4:04pm, and 10:04pm. Write and let us know what you think about them. ….. And as far as live music is concerned, quite a few shows are coming to our area in the next couple of weeks: Friday night, Josh Grider will be at Hurricane Alley, and John Michael Montgomery will be at Whiskey Dicks down in El Paso. Next Wednesday night, Jason Boland and the Stragglers will be at Hurricane Alley. And then on October 2nd, it’ll be time for the big fall concert at the SNM State Fair; it’s Reckless Kelly this year.

News From Around The Country
Mel Tillis
was honored with the Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award last night during the ACM Honors event. It’s one of many awards he has received during the years including being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In other Mel news, his first comedy album, You Ain’t Gonna Believe This, hits stores today. In the 23 cut album you’ll hear three new songs and the jokes that kept his fans laughing during his 13 year run in Branson, Missouri. He’ll be on Fox & Friends tomorrow morning to promote it. ….. Dierks Bentley’s Miles & Music For Kids event was held in Seattle, Washington last Saturday. Despite the rain, it raised $50,000 for the Seattle Children’s Hospital. Last year, Dierks partnered with several charities to expand the success of the event to six cities across the country in 2009 and 2010. ….. Keith Urban’s wife, Nicole Kidman, is returning to Broadway to star in Sweet Bird of Youth. The story is a “sultry tale of a gigolo and a faded movie star” and will begin production next fall. So that’s why Keith and Nicole recently purchased the penthouse with the automobile-elevator to their floor! … And finally, congratulations are in order for the youngest member of Gloriana, Cheyenne Kimball. Over the weekend, the 20-year-old and her boyfriend, singer-songwriter Casey Twist, announced their engagement.

Tuesday Newsday

Weren’t we just talking about a rash of babies expected by the stars? There’s word of another one as Josh Turner and his wife, Jennifer, have announced the impending arrival of their third child. The new baby will join big brothers, Hampton who is three, and one-year-old Colby. Josh is actually responsible for the couple finding out that they were pregnant again. Josh says that Jennifer had been acting “a little different” so he encouraged her to take a pregnancy test. The test came back negative, but he refused to believe it. So Jennifer took another test that proved his theory right! Perhaps they’ll have another boy, which may set some sort of new precedent for having three boys in the family, as opposed to the set of three girls that so many artists are raising. Makes you wonder if Brad and Kimberly Paisley are paying attention to all these babies, and if they’d try for a third son. Mark Chesnutt is the first other artist to come to mind who has three sons versus daughters.

News From Around The Country
Cheyenne Kimball of Gloriana turns 20 today. She’s the youngest member of the group. ….. Jaron and The Long Road To Love is scheduled to perform his hit “Pray For You” tonight on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. ….. Reba McEntire is featured on the September cover of the Cowboys & Indians Magazine. …. And finally, Martina McBride has been speaking recently about her friendship with Kid Rock, as well as her view on cross-genre music. Martina helped Kid Rock kick-off the CMT Music Awards this year as they performed “Cowboy” with a handful of other country artists. And she’s featured on the track “Care” along with rapper T.I. on Kid Rock’s upcoming album, Born Free. Martina commented, “Everybody says to me, ‘well that’s a weird pairing, you and Kid Rock.’ But it doesn’t feel weird when we’re together and we’re performing. It’s just exciting to me that he has singled me out to be part of his project. I think that’s really cool. And it’s an honor.”

Webcast + 60,000 People

Yesterday, over 60,000 fans tuned in to Taylor Swift’s webcast as she released new details behind her upcoming album and first single. Taylor’s third album Speak Now, will be released worldwide on October 25th, following her brand new single “Mine,” which is scheduled to hit radio mid-August. Taylor says, “The new single is about my tendency to run from love, and finding the exception to that.” Taylor also revealed she is planning a world tour following the album, and plans to visit some of her favorite places including, Ireland, Latin America, and Italy. The album which is co-produced by Nathan Chapman, will feature 14 different tracks – all of which were solely written by Taylor.

Keith Urban has collaborated with such artists as Brad Paisley, John Mayer, and John Fogerty. Now he’s completely switched gears and recorded with The Wiggles and he didn’t even do it to impress his daughter Sunday. Keith says, “She’s not hip to The Wiggles yet. But I did do a song with them recently, so hopefully when she’s into them, she’ll think Dad’s cool ‘cause he sang with The Wiggles. We did a cover version of “England Swings” by Roger Miller.”

Trace Adkins will be starring alongside Mathew McConaughey in next year’s drama The Lincoln Lawyer. The film portrays the story of a lawyer who does business out of a Lincoln Town Car while representing a prestigious Beverly Hills client. Trace will portray the leader of a bike gang. It’s a small role, but Trace looks forward to it because it’s easy, and it only takes three days out of his schedule.

Kellie Pickler has added a new addition to her family with the adoption of a ten-month-old Weimaraner puppy named Tucker. The new dog will join Kellie’s other three dogs Pixie, Maddie, and MooMoo as she tours with Rascal Flatts. The band better watch out because Kellie says that she often gives away rescue dogs at concerts. "If I see a dog sitting anywhere on the road, I'm going to put him on the bus and try to find him a home. I've been notoriously known for giving animals away at concerts." Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, or Joe Don Rooney may wind up with a dog of their own.

And finally, if you're a fan of Gloriana, you'll be able to get an inside look at the band's Long Hot Summer tour this Friday, as they stream their live performance at Churchill Downs music festival in Louisville, Kentucky. Check it out at 4:35 pm on the band’s website.

Hope You Have A Dual-Channel DVR

With the ACM’s approaching, you don’t have to turn too many channels this week to catch a country star on TV. But you might need a dual-channel DVR to catch conflicts. Tonight, Lady Antebellum is the musical guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, as well as the Late Show With David Letterman. Alan Jackson will also appear on Jay Leno Wednesday, while Gloriana performs on Jimmy Kimmel Live. We mentioned yesterday that Blake Shelton and Bombshel will be on the Price Is Right on Friday. And then on Saturday, Jack Ingram is scheduled for two songs on The Early Show.

And if that isn’t enough for you, clear more room on the DVR for The Celebrity Apprentice this Sunday, opposite the ACM’s. Trace Adkins will be back in New York to sit in Donald Trump’s boardroom when he acts as celebrity advisor on an episode where the current contestants will be given the task of creating image makeovers for Emily West and Luke Bryan. Considering the remaining contestants include Cyndi Lauper, Brett Michaels from Poison, and Sharon Osbourne, among others, this could be a scary proposition. Good thing Trace will keep them in line with country. Trace was the runner-up to winner Piers Morgan of the 2008 reality series, and raised a half-million dollars for the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network.

And finally, watch for the return of Shania Twain to American Idol. As a guest judge during Idol’s Chicago auditions earlier this season, Shania proved she has an ear for talent. This time, Shania will return as a mentor to the contestants. Unlike some of past season nine mentors, Shania has plenty of experience to draw on after being in the business for nearly two decades, selling over 65 million albums and winning five Grammys.

Wacky Wednesday

Luke Bryan, Gloriana and Joey & Rory have won their respective 2010 ACM Awards. Luke was fan-voted the top new solo vocalist, Gloriana picked as top new vocal group, and Joey & Rory were given the top new vocal duo. The three artists will now compete for the Best New Artist award, which will also be fan-voted and then awarded at the ACM Awards in Las Vegas on April 18th.

How’s this for a concert bill? The Eagles … the Dixie Chicks …. and Keith Urban! The three acts have scheduled a mini-tour of five dates; The Eagles and Chicks will continue for an additional three dates. All dates are in major cities, with nothing around our area, it’s just fun that those particular three acts would perform together and that the Chicks are performing together at all, considering Martie and Emily have stepped off on their own as the Court Yard Hounds. Well, they did say that the original trio band was not officially broken up…….

No Rest for the Weary

If you’re reading this an hour later than you normally do, you made it through Daylight Savings Time unscathed. Congratulations. ..... Recognition is also in order for the NMSU Aggies: 12th seed in the NCAA Tournament vs. Michigan State in Spokane on Friday at 5:20pm. You’ll hear the game on The Country Station. Happy Monday.

So Kenny Chesney took the year off the road to rest? How’s it going? “Well I can’t wait to get back on the road so I can get some rest,” Kenny said, “I really have been more mentally busy so far this year than I ever have been.” Between recording a new record and preparing the release of Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3D, he hasn’t had the “time off” he had hoped for. Kenny will be part of the Brooks & Dunn ACM Tribute which will tape the day after the ACM Awards, April 19th, in Las Vegas. There is no release date set for the new album, but Kenny is aiming for the fall. In the meantime, Greatest Hits II, includes the ESPN college football anthem, “This Is Our Moment,” and the current Top 10 single, “Ain’t Back Yet.”

CRS Day Four

The final day of CRS 2010. The last day of seminars to discuss the various aspects of the radio and record business.

Beyond that, Capitol Records hosted a luncheon and The New Faces Class of 2010 performed. At lunch, it was announced that Little Big Town could not be in attendance because Karen Fairchild is with child and due to have the baby any day. To substitute, the music video for the new single “Little White Church” opened the show, followed by music videos from The Band Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lady Antebellum. Emily West appeared in person. She is an energetic little firecracker with looks and pipes reminiscent of Faith Hill. Her current single is “Blue Sky,” which she sang so powerfully, it’s a good thing that the luncheon plates were shatter-proof plastic.

Following Emily was Eric Church, who brought a little bit of his road show to the convention center. In a cleverly-put-together production, Eric presented an interactive documentary. Interspersed with his live performance on stage, video packages of his life on the road were shown on the large side screens. Plus, to spice up the standard live feed of video from the stage on those large screens, much of the time, that live video was faded into video of real live crowds. The whole presentation felt much more connected to a true concert experience, rather than just a bunch of jaded radio people eating lunch and listening to yet another artist. And this from the same guy who three years ago did the same luncheon and spent his allotted 20 minutes doing a continuous medley of all his music rather than breaking it up with a bunch of talking between songs. Eric is a unique and entertaining character. Although, he beats his chest a lot when he sings. That’s got to hurt after a while.

CRS wraps up with The New Faces Class of 2010. Each act begins with a short video that some use as a career-highlight reel, some use as a thank-you video, and some use to be cute and funny through contrived skits. Once onstage, each act has enough time for about 4 songs. Most do their current and/or most famous hits that radio will recognize, plus something of their choosing. First up was Love and Theft - young, fresh, and energetic. The three-part harmonies or “Runaway” really keep your attention moving across the stage. They will be opening for Tim McGraw this year. Randy Houser was quite humbled by the honor of being voted on to the New Faces show. To him, performing at his current level is a dream he’s had since he was about 5 years old. He rocked out on Drake’s viral video hit, “Boots On,” and sent his vocals soaring on the song that let his mama hear her son on the radio for the first time, “Anything Goes.” Chris Young got directly to the business at hand by delivering “Gettin’ You Home” to the radio programmers who made it his first number one song. He also slipped in “Voices,” “The Man I Want To Be,” and one of his personal favorites, “Rainy Night In Georgia,” the latter a sultry song that fits his charismatic voice like a soft pair of fresh socks. The fast-rising foursome of Gloriana stepped out to own the stage with a sampling of their music including their first hit “Wild At Heart,” and the current single which they recorded for the US Olympic Team soundtrack “The World Is Ours Tonight.” Each member seemed to have their own style and unique contribution to the group, but as a whole they are a full plate of audio and visual tastiness. Lastly, Justin Moore took to the stage, complete with a 4-wheel ATV on his set. Unlike Bucky Covington, who rode his dirt bike onto stage two years ago, Justin used his vehicle only for continuity from his hunting-themed video introduction. The video ended with the ATV headlights coming at the camera; the curtain came up to those headlights glaring into the audience. From there, it was game on! With the exception of a touching tribute song for his grandpa, Justin rocked out and owned that stage. This is a guy to be excited about. He is an all-purpose package and a bright light to country’s future. His music is country, but it’s rockin’. He can touch your heart with a ballad, or he can kick your a$$ with an attitude song. He’s got the tunes that'll relate to the guys; he’s got the sexy swagger of Tim McGraw to swoon the women. It looks like country music is in good hands with the Class of 2010. Another successful CRS in the can. You've been seeing the pictures. Watch for video.

Busy Days Ahead

Happy Feel Good Friday! It’s a big weekend here in the Mesilla Valley. Tonight starts the 2-day NMSU Aggie Rodeo at the fairgrounds, tomorrow is the March for Babies at Young Park and then the NMSU Spring Game in the afternoon, and both days this weekend is the La Vina Blues and Jazz Festival in La Union. Aside from all that, our sister station, Viva Vista, is having a birthday party, and there will be more opportunity to enter to win the Harley. Are we keeping you busy enough? If you must stay on the couch, check out what’s happening in country music:

Miranda Lambert has learned a big lesson: never go hog hunting before a big tour starts. She slipped in a creek and whacked up her leg pretty good. She got a tetanus shot and has been treating herself with “Neosporin and Bacardi,” but she’s still been seen limping around stage fighting off a potential infection. She says that she is almost at 100%.

Garth Brooks will be working behind the camera once again. In 2001, Garth co-produced a made-for-TV movie Call Me Claus starring Whoppi Goldberg. This time he is executive producing a Lifetime TV movie based on his hit “Unanswered Prayers.” The movie is said to be in pre-production; no actors have been announced yet but it’s likely to be on TV sometime in 2010.

Is It Thursday?

Happy Birthday, Kenny Chesney - one year past 40. Fresh from his Mac McAnally duet hit “Down The Road,” which Mac wrote while he was waiting for his kids to get up on Christmas Day 1987, Kenny will be releasing his Greatest Hits 2 on May 19th.
Emerson Drive is in El Salvador working on a mission with Compassion International. Unfortunately, keyboard player Dale Wallace is stuck in Nashville. Dale was unable to board the plane to El Salvador due to an issue with his passport. He spent over an hour disputing the issue, yet ultimately had to say bon voyage to his fellow band members. Dale was disappointed about missing the trip and said, “I was really looking forward to checking out a country I have never been to, and also getting the chance to work alongside the people from ‘Compassion.’” Dale goes on to say that he will make sure he is well prepared for the band’s next trip to a far off land. Emerson Drive is working with Compassion International to help raise awareness of children living in poverty around the world.

News From Around The Country
