It’s a tad more than halfway through the year, so it’s time for Pollstar to release the list of the Top 10 most successful touring acts so far this year, just to see how things are stacking up. At #7, Kenny Chesney is the only country artist to make the Top 10. Country lands elsewhere on the chart with Rascal Flatts at number 18, George Strait at 30, Brad Paisley at 31, Keith Urban at 33 and largely sold-out Taylor Swift tour at 43. Here’s the list: 1) Britney Spears, 2) Fleetwood Mac, 3) Elton John / Billy Joel, 4) Eagles, 5) Celine Dion, 6) Bruce Springsteen, 7) Kenny Chesney, 8) Dave Matthews Band, 9) The Dead, 10) Dane Cook.
Meanwhile, out on Brad Paisley’s 31st-ranking tour, opening act Jimmy Wayne has been bracing himself for pranks from Brad. Well, recently Brad tried to play a small prank on Jimmy by leaving him a message on his voice mail asking that he reduce his set from 25 minutes to 15. Jimmy couldn’t let him get away with the joke so he pretended as though Brad had instead asked him to play for 50 minutes and called to thank him. He took it a step further with the help of his management team. Jimmy says, “So they typed up this really great letter to the “King of Nice” Brad Paisley, man. Thank you so much, man. Your generosity is just overflowing. We’ve already booked out some rehearsal space. We’re going to press. We’re telling everybody what you guys are doing. Man, you rock, you rock. So his manager called my manager for like two days like ‘stop, stop, stop,’ but we never answered the phone.” Brad eventually called Jimmy and told him he’s “in for it now” and to be expecting a full-fledged prank.
And finally, if you’ve got your DVRs set for the VMA’s – Video Music Awards – you’ll get another glimpse of Taylor Swift. This time she will perform a never-before-heard version of “You Belong With Me” at MTV’s award gala on September 13th in New York City. This will be her first time to perform at the VMAs.
