Marty Stuart is getting ready to bring country music into homes across America with a new season of his television show, The Marty Stuart Show. Marty handpicks his guests for the show, which have included in the past Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Earl Scruggs, Dierks Bentley, Emmylous Harris, Vince Gill, and many more. The show highlights what’s happening in traditional country music, and Marty said, “We get to work with old friends and some real music legends and also help introduce our audience to some new singers in the new wave coming up now!”

Over the weekend, Trisha Yearwood attended the New York Wine & Food Festival where she gave fans a taste of her homemade carrot cake. Her secret to making the delicious dessert – puree the carrots. She said, “You don’t want to taste chunks.” Trisha has released two cookbooks so far, but she admits she’s not an expert. “I’m very quick to say I’m not a chef. I’m a cook,” Trisha said. She is reportedly working on a new album and says that she and her husband Garth Brooks would love to make an album together, they just have to figure out when the timing is right.

Five country artists will serve as co-hosts with Hoda Kotb during the fourth hour of the Today show this week. This morning, it’s Blake Shelton in for Kathy Lee Gifford (who offered her Spanx and dressing room to Blake as a “thank you” for taking her place). Martina McBride will co-host tomorrow, John Rich takes the seat Wednesday, followed by Trisha Yearwood on Thursday, and Josh Turner on Friday.

Country music fans can now find all of their favorite artists at their fingertips with the launch of CMT’s new iPhone app, CMT Insider. The app kicks off today with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Taylor Swift’s new video, “Mine.” Throughout the week, the app will update with the latest news, photos and information about Friday’s global world premiere video.

Miranda Lambert will release her first performance DVD, Revolution: Live By Candlelight on October 12th. The six-song DVD features rare, acoustic performances of five songs, including her back-to-back #1 singles, “White Liar,” and “The House That Built Me.” As an added bonus, the DVD also features one of her favorite songs, “Love Is Looking For You,” from her Kerosene album. The upcoming DVD will also include exclusive, never-before-seen footage of the stories behind the songs. The DVD was filmed in an intimate setting – a dimly lit stage surrounded with candles – which actually set off the fire alarm while recording!

Dancing With Reba

Set your DVRs! There are several places where you can catch country artists on TV this week. Friday, Kenny Chesney will be on Oprah’s show to talk about his latest music and his new movie. …… Thursday night, Trace Adkins will stop by The Late, Late Show With Craig Ferguson. …. Today, Trisha Yearwood will be sitting in with the ladies on The View to promote her new cookbook, Home Cooking With Trisha Yearwood. ….. Reba McEntire will be singing two guest numbers tonight on Dancing With The Stars. While she’s there, she should get a chance to have a nice visit with country fan and pro dancer Tony Dovolani. Tony danced with Sara Evans in Season 3, and the two still stay in touch. During their time to dance together, Sara introduced Tony to Tim McGraw. Tony says, “He was creating a new song that he was showing Sara, and I got to see his creative process, which was really, cool. Just to see him be creative and do different things, for me, it was like, wow! I got to see the master at work!” Tony hopes to incorporate a Tim McGraw tune into a future dance with this season’s partner Kate Gosselin. That is, unless they are eliminated on tonight’s episode.

Voting began yesterday for the 2010 CMT Music Awards, country music’s only fan-voted award show. Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum and Sugarland lead the pack in first round nominations with four each, followed by Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band, who tallied three each. The first round of voting runs from today through Monday, May 3rd, only at CMT.com. On Tuesday, May 11, CMT will announce the four finalists in each of the categories, except Video of the Year. Fans can then vote through June 8th to determine the winners. The final nominees for Video of the Year are announced at the beginning of the live show and fans vote throughout the live broadcast.

Musical Olympians

The opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics are tonight in Vancouver. Watch for music videos during the broadcasts from Rascal Flatts and Gloriana. The AT&T Team USA Soundtrack is available for digital download on iTunes today to benefit Team USA. The soundtrack features a new version of Rascal Flatts' "Unstoppable," Gloriana's "The World Is Ours Tonight," and Sugarland's "Wide Open." .

The guitar Taylor Swift donated to the “All for the Hall” has been scheduled to be auctioned tomorrow. Since Taylor’s lucky number is 13, the auction will begin February 13th, and last for 13 days. Fans can place their bid on the Country Music Hall of Fame website until February 26th. Proceeds benefit the Hall of Fame.

Taylor Swift now has her own signature model guitar to be built and distributed by Taylor Guitars. The “Taylor Swift Baby Taylor” guitar is based on the company's ¾-scale dreadnought guitar and it’s built with a laminate body and a solid spruce top. The top of the special-edition guitar is decorated with a screen-printed rosette design and the word "love" three times within a vine motif. It also includes her signature and the title of her latest album, Fearless, near the bridge. The guitar's list price is just under 400-dollars, but it is expected to be sold for around 300-dollars when it becomes available later this month.

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will be part of the judging panel for a Peanuts Look-a-like Contest celebrating the comic strip’s 60th Anniversary. Garth and Trisha will be joined by Jill Schulz, daughter of Peanuts creator Charles Schulz, and SuperNanny Jo Frost on the judging panel. Submissions will be taken online at peanutsphotocontest.com until November 3rd. Once the panel selects the finalists, the winner will be picked through an online voting process. The contest benefits Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Brad Paisley has teamed with actor Zach Quinto, producer Mark Schwann and writers Neal Dodson and Matt Bomer to create and co-produce a TV show for the CW Network, tentatively titled Nashville . The show will focus on the music business, but Brad says, “Look for some of your favorite country music stars to make their acting debuts on the show -- either by playing themselves or as a character in the script." …. Congratulations to Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney. They are the only country artists up for a Billboard Touring Award. Taylor is up for the Breakthrough Award. Kenny is up for his 6th “Top Package” award. ….. Craig Morgan's video, "God Must Really Love Me," won the video of the year trophy from the Inspirational Country Music Awards. In related news, Craig and Chris Young will travel to Iraq and Germany later this month on behalf of the Stars for Stripes organization. …. Martina McBride is one of subjects of the ABC-TV special In The Spotlight. There are rumors that Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood will also be featured. Martina shot her segment of the show last Friday, and it will air on November 10th. …. Sugarland’s Love On The Inside album has just been certified double-platinum. Jennifer and Kristian now have a triple-set of double-platinum awards for all three of their albums. …. And finally, Bucky Covington has a headline gig coming up in front of NASCAR fans. Being a NASCAR fan himself, it’s only appropriate that he play a free post-race show following the NASCAR Nationwide Series Kroger On Track For The Cure 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park coming up Saturday in Memphis.

It’s Country Music Week on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader! Watch CMT at 6pm (Mountain) each night this week to see Jeff Foxworthy quiz the country stars on grade school subjects. It’s interesting to note that all of this week’s contestants share the same hair color. So be prepared for some great “blond moments” when the singers are forced to cheat off 5th graders to win some money for charity. Blake Shelton's brow-raising tweets have lead to him to be entered in the Mr. Twitter U-S-A contest for September and so far he is in the lead. The link to the contest is on his website and fans can vote every 20-minutes. Should Blake win in the U-S, he would then go on to a global competition for the world crown. … Lady Antebellum’s “I Run To You,” is being featured in the fall commercial campaign for the financial services giant TIAA-CREF. … Love and Theft have been asked to join the Jason Aldean Tour. … And finally, Trisha Yearwood has been asked to host the annual “Christmas at Belmont.” She’ll join over 400 university students and faculty singers, as well as the Nashville Children’s Choir. It will take place at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, and will be nationally aired on December 23rd on PBS.

Family Notes

Boys are in the water in Nashville. There was a generation where it seemed as though all the big stars were having girls, now it seems the stork is stuck on boys. Josh Turner and his wife, Jennifer, had a second son this past Friday, June 26, in Nashville. Newborn Colby Lynch Turner joins 2-year old big brother, Hampton. It’s ironic that Jennifer went into labor right after Josh finished recording his fourth album. Reportedly, Josh’s producer, Frank Rogers, joked with Jennifer that she couldn’t go into labor until they finished the album. Josh says, “We finished the album last Thursday at 6pm. After I got home, Jennifer went into labor, and we were at the hospital by 10:30 that night.”

SheDaisy’s Kassidy Osborn is a married woman. She married Derek Williamson in a private ceremony in San Diego. When the honeymoon’s through, SheDaisy will be back in the studio working on a 5th CD. Kris Kristofferson will be recognized as a BMI Icon at the BMI Country Awards this November. The iconic designation is bestowed on songwriters who have had a unique and indelible influence on generations of music. Trisha Yearwood will be putting out a second cookbook. Look for it around Mother’s Day 2010. If you get the Pentagon Channel on your cable service, look for Dean Brody to be interviewed about his hit song “Brothers” over 4th of July weekend.

The Tradition Continues...

The first time Eddie and Troy played the on the hallowed stage was October 3,2000. Last night, they became members, as Marty Stuart and Little Jimmy Dickens inducted Montgomery Gentry into the Grand Ole Opry. Troy Gentry was nearly speechless when he said“All day I’ve been trying to conjure up the words to say what this means, but there aren’t enough words to describe what this night means to us. Thank you all so much.” Eddie Mongomery choked up when it was his turn to speak, “I remember sittin’ in an old junky station wagon listening to the Grand Ole Opry with my dad. He’d say, ‘It don’t matter what you do in country music; if you don’t become a member of the Grand Ole Opry, you ain’t got there yet,’” he finished by lifting his statuette toward the sky saying, “Dad, we made it!”

It’s finally been decided. Julianne Hough will star with Chace Crawford in the upcoming remake of Footloose. Even though she has experience playing “Arial”, she says she will be playing a character named “Sarah.” The movie should be out in ’10. Willie Nelson has been honored at the 2009 Maui Film Festival with the Maverick Award for being a constitutional supporter and for being politically outspoken. Toby Keith will be joining the ranks of those touring Europe this fall. Most of his November schedule has dates in Scotland, Ireland, England, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway. Garth Brooks and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, made a surprise appearance in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl last Friday. They were there to help Star Wars conductor John Williams open the summer season. And finally, Taylor Swift has announced the official charitable partner of her Fearless Tour as Best Buy’s @15 organization.

Another lost dog has joined Miranda Lambert’s menagerie. The dog approached Miranda while she was at her local fast food drive-in, and Miranda felt for the dog because it was covered in fleas and ticks and had been hanging around for about a week. She took the dog out to Blake Shelton’s place, they bathed it, got it to a vet, and after learning that it was otherwise healthy, it … er, she … was named Delta Dawn and got to take her first celebrity pet trip to Las Vegas for the ACM Awards. Fresh from the streets, little Delta Dawn got to meet Carrie Underwood’s dog, Ace. You can imagine that must have been a clash of cultures right out of a movie plot: pampered pooch meets streetwise stray! Miranda blogged that Delta Dawn was still to meet her “sister”, Delilah, and that they were going to have to learn to love each other.

Trisha Yearwood will be helping to build homes in Tulsa and Atlanta as part of the 2nd annual National Women Build Week May 2nd through the 10th. The program benefits Habitat For Humanity. Tracy Lawrence will be holding his 15th annual Golf Classic on Monday in Texarkana as a fundraiser for his Tracy Lawrence Foundation.

It's the middle of the week, it's Half Off Wednesday with Comet Cleaners while supplies last, and several blond ladies are in the news.

Faith Hill has upcoming appearances scheduled to promote her Christmas CD, Joy To The World. Look for Tim’s wife on The Today Show next Tuesday and, later in November, on The View and on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Jewel is the first artist out of the gate to offer a “black Friday” deal. Fans can log on to Jewel’s website on the day after Thanksgiving, and for a one-dollar minium donation to the Country Music Hall of Fame, you can get Jewel’s album Perfectly Clear. Proceeds from this 24-hour offer will benefit the All For The Hall Campaign which raises money help to fund the storage and preservation of the museum's unduplicated collection of country music artifacts.

Trisha Yearwood, John Legend and R.E.M. have teamed up for a new DVD featuring “Elmo.” The project, Elmo Loves You will teach children about love, emotion and friendship. It’ll be out around Valentine’s Day.

Rascal Flatts has picked the park! Upon winning the 2008 Home Depot Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Country Music, Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney earned the right to build a playground at the site of their choosing. Gary’s wife has family in Birmingham, AL, so it was brought to their attention that Princeton Alternative Elementary School needed a new playground. The need has been met. The Flatts will work with volunteers from The Home Depot, the Academy of Country Music, KaBOOM!, and the community of Birmingham to construct the new playground on October 15th.

Kellie Pickler topped the Billboard Country Albums Chart with her self-titled sophomore CD. Kellie is now one of only six artists in history to top that chart in the first week with both of their first two CD’s. Look for more on Kellie in the newest issue of People magazine. In an in-depth interview, Kellie talks about her battle with depression last year. Family problems and an emotional breakup with professional hockey player, Jordin Tootoo, led to the consumption of anti-depressants. She stopped taking them due to the side effects. Kellie says that her friendships with Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, new boyfriend Kyle Jacobs, and songwriting for the new album all helped her get through the difficult time in her life.

There’s also going to be a new 3-disc CD set coming out on November 18th that features music from Brooks & Dunn, Clint Black, and Tracy Byrd. For those that will be in front of the television for at least part of the Labor Day weekend, the 43rd Annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon begins Sunday. This year’s crop of country artists who will be out to help Jerry’s kids include Reba McEntire, Sugarland, Tracy Lawrence, Jimmy Wayne, and a grown-up Billy Gilman.

The fall TV season is shaping up and again there will be a country star on Dancing With The Stars. Although this time, the country star is the teacher! Julianne Hough will take part in the seventh season of Dancing With the Stars with dance partner Cody Linley. The 18-year-old actor who played Jake Ryan on Hannah Montana is the youngest celebrity ever to compete on the hit show. The rest of this year’s celebrity cast includes Lance Bass, chef Rocco DiSpirito, Olympic beach volleyball player Misty May-Treanor, Olympic runner Maurice Greene, Toni Braxton, Kim Kardashian, Cloris Leachman, Ted McGinley, Brooke Burke, comedian Jeffrey Ross, football player Warren Sapp and Susan Lucci. The show premieres September 22nd on ABC.

Album news:
Kenny Chesney releases his next album Lucky Old Sun October 14th. Following Sugarland's lead, Kenny is releasing a Deluxe Fan Edition of the CD that will include the songs “Boston,” “Soul of a Sailor,” and live versions of “Got A Little Crazy” and “Guitars and Tiki Bars.” Rascal Flatts is putting out their first Greatest Hits package on October 28th. The 16-track CD will include 13 of their biggest hits and 3 Christmas songs, “White Christmas,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and an a capella version of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” The three holiday tracks will be available as part of the Rascal Flatts CD for a limited time and will be the only Christmas songs available from the band. And the next project from Tracy Lawrence will be a Christian album. It’s a project his parents have always wanted him to record and he says now was the perfect time to record the CD with songs that could be country or Christian. Tracy even wrote a few songs with his pastor while working on the project.

Ever seen the dog tags that Jack Ingram wears? Believe it or not, Jack explains that he wears the tag as a sign of loyalty to his favorite burger joint, Whataburger. "It seemed appropriate to wear," Jack says with a grin. "It brings back memories of playing for burgers and beer back at Adair's in Dallas when I was starting out." Explaining the rest of his tags, Jack says, “I also wear a 'Never Lost' tag, taken from a Hertz rental car, on the chain with a 'Dreams Come True' tag that Sugarland gave me when we toured together. I just thought, as a touring musician, being never lost and staying on course is important. Of course, maybe what I am really trying to convey is that I am never lost on my way to a Whataburger!"

And finally, another WhataStory from Trisha Yearwood. Last week, Trisha was on her way home from a three-day, 60-mile walk to benefit the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. "We had been in the air for almost an hour when we heard a loud pop," Yearwood tells People magazine. That pop was a window towards the front of the plane that cracked at 30,000 feet. "The flight attendant came back and told us to remain calm," Trisha explained. "That's when we saw the two pilots with the oxygen masks on. Hearing them breathe like Darth Vader made it a little harder to stay calm." As the crack in the window got bigger and bigger, the plane made an emergency landing in Baltimore before the window completely shattered. After a few hour delay, Trisha was able to get a safe flight home to Oklahoma.

The keepers of country statistics have determined that George Strait has achieved more Top Ten singles than George Jones. As “Troubadour” moves up the chart, Strait tallies his 79th trip into the Top Ten. Jones is stalled at 78. Give him a few more singles and Strait should tie or best Eddy Arnold, who holds the record at 92 Top Ten Singles.

LeAnn Rimes had to cancel three shows recently due to tonsillitis, but her time off wasn’t wasted. Construction on her new home had just been completed so she spent her time unpacking boxes with husband Dean Sheremet. Jamey Johnson has been added to the list of performers for Farm Aid. Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and the Dave Matthews Band will also perform on September 20th. Sara Evans will team up with ice skating legend Peggy Fleming on NBC’s Skating For Life special. The show will tape this October in New York City and air October 15th. Kid Rock will perform “All Summer Long” on the upcoming 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. Taylor Swift and Sheryl Crow take turns interviewing each other in the August 25th issue of US Weekly magazine. Trisha Yearwood is featured on the cover of the September edition of Redbook magazine.

A Bounty of Blonds

It’s a Feel Good Friday at The Country Station and the news is flying at us in more of a random pattern than a loopy pilot on final approach.

We’ll make a swift start because a day without Taylor Swift is like an ocean without water. Today it’s being reported that country music’s favorite 18-year-old blond has been named a “Goddess of Summer” by the makers of a national brand of women’s razors. "This has been an amazing year for me -- and my new 'Goddess of Summer' role is a fun way for me to connect with my fans," Taylor said. Be watching for Taylor and her goddess-worthy legs in ad campaigns beginning August 15th.

Blond #2. Garth Brooks’ pretty wife, Miss Yearwood is sporting a ‘stache that you can’t shave. Trisha Yearwood is the latest celebrity to be featured in the “Got Milk” ad campaign.

Cute-as-a-cowgirl Jessica Simpson will be on the September cover of Elle magazine with an accompanying article about her love life and musical inspirations. That’s 3.

Blond #4 comes with a little more testosterone, but it’s attractive to learn that there’s some intellect under the curls. Dierks Bentley recently finished reading a biography of Henry the 8th. It was 900 pages long and he says he felt smart pulling it out to read on planes. He finished it while in Europe on tour.

And as long as we’re shopping in the good-lookin’ blond men’s department, how about a fifth tow head for a Feel Good Friday? Word is circulating that Bucky Covington is shopping for material for a sophomore album. New songs are being auditioned to receptive audiences on the concert trail this summer, with studio time tentatively booked for the fall. Stay tuned for a release date. Meanwhile, the third single from Bucky Covington, “I’ll Walk” continues to climb the charts (#13 MR / #29 MB) and burn up the video sharing services. Now for those that prefer your fellas a little on the darker side, Johnny Cash fans will want to set your DVR’s to see The Man in Black on August 5th. A 40-year old documentary will air on PBS. The documentary aired originally on public TV shortly after it was made in the late '60's, was released briefly in theaters, was shown in the United Kingdom, and aired last year on a cable channel. Cash is shown in a variety of footage onstage and off. Asked why PBS would air such dated footage, Executive Director Simon Kilmurry said, "Johnny Cash has become an almost mythic figure, and Bob Elfstrom's film captures him as a three-dimensional, complex person at a pivotal point in his life and career." Look for Johnny Cash: The Man, His World, His Music on TV Tuesday as part of the 21st season of PBS' Emmy-winning P.O.V. series.

And lastly, sad news related to the Spotlight Artist of the Week. Darryl Worley’s Uncle Ed Howard has died at 95 this week in Savannah, Tennessee. He made regular appearances in his nephew’s videos, including the featured spotlight video “Tennessee River Run." Uncle Ed was also a fixture at Darryl’s annual Tennessee River Run to raise money for charitable causes. Condolences to the Worley Family.
