Yesterday we told you about a telethon that was going to take place on Nashville television to benefit flood relief. As it turned out, Working 4 You: Flood Relief with Vince Gill & Friends raised over one-million dollars in three hours. Vince and Reba each donated 100-thousand dollars to the cause and Taylor Swift donated 500-thousand dollars. Keith Urban, Alison Krauss, Naomi Judd, Darius Rucker, Phil Vassar, Lonestar, Bo Bice and Vince each performed during the event. All proceeds will benefit The Salvation Army, The Red Cross and The Second Harvest Food Bank
And here’s the positive spin to holding the CMA Music Fest on what will hopefully be dry land in downtown Nashville in another few weeks. The Country Music Association (CMA) has announced that 50 percent of the net proceeds of 2010 CMA Music Festival will be donated to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee for flood relief. This is in addition to CMA's already established annual donation of 50 percent of the net proceeds to Metro Nashville Public Schools for music education through the Keep the Music Playing program.
And finally, it’s nice to see that Taylor Swift is trying to use her influence in a positive manner. During her performance on Monday in New York City at Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People event, Taylor asked the crowd to keep Nashville in their thoughts and prayers, noting that the flood was the worst in the city's history. Attendees included former President Bill Clinton, Elton John, Martha Stewart, Betty White, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Matt Lauer and more.
