Day 1 of Group 2 voting closed with Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, and the Zac Brown Band tied for first. Although none of the three songs is showing signs of runaway voting like we saw last week. Carrie Underwood handily owns the lead, a phenomenon which is consistent with nationwide airplay. Carrie was just named the #1 Hot Country Songs Artist by Billboard, making her the most-heard country artist of 2008. Carrie reigned supreme on CMT with “Just A Dream” claiming the top spot on the list of the year’s best country music videos. She was also the most-streamed artist on CMT.com for her video “All-American Girl.”
News From Around The Country
Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s rural home in the Australian Southern Highlands might not be as rural as they thought. According to Australia’s Daily Telegraph, Keith and Nicole had no idea that a 100-unit motel and conference center is proposed to be built right next to their Bunya Hill 1878 Georgian estate. In fact, visitors at the motel would be able to peer right into the couple’s back yard. A lobby group of about 30 nearby residents is fighting the plan and approval for the build is scheduled to go before the Wingecarribee Shire Council in February.
The Recording Academy has named Gene Autry and Brenda Lee as recipients of their Lifetime Achievement Award, along with the Blind Boys Of Alabama, the Four Tops, Hank Jones, Dean Martin, and Tom Paxton. Neil Diamond has been named the MusiCares 2009 Person of the Year, so Tim McGraw and Raul Malo will perform in his honor during the annual gala. Special ceremonies from both organizations will be held during GRAMMY Week along with a formal acknowledgment of the Lifetime Achievement Award winners made during the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast from Los Angeles on February 8th.
Christmas With The Stars
It’s Evie’s first Christmas. Dierks Bentley and his wife, Cassidy, will be celebrating their 3-month-old daughter’s first holiday, and Dierks says there are some holiday traditions he grew up with that he wants to pass on to his little girl. “My family was real small back in Arizona, so we kept everything really – just the five of us,” Dierks said. “It was like the same routine every year. The Beach Boys Christmas album was always on – actually a great record and the harmonies are incredible. But like the whole Charlie Brown Christmas was like pretty much a tradition every year and um, now with Cass and Evie and my own family, we’re starting our own traditions.” Dierks recently performed at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Norway, but is now back home celebrating the holidays with his wife and daughter.
