The Stars Have Spoken ...

T.G.I.F. It’s been a big week for country music. The stars have been very vocal with reaction to this week’s CMA Nominations, but the quote of the week belongs to Dolly Parton. Referring to her hit song “I Will Always Love You,” Dolly joked, "Whitney Houston may have sung the song better, but I made more money on it."

Dolly was in Los Angeles this week for the sneak preview show of 9 to 5: The Musical. Just before the play began, Dolly Parton appeared on stage to welcome everyone to pre-opening night, and she promised to return if there were any technical problems. Much to the audience's delight, there were. A moving set got stuck in the middle of Act 1, causing the production to be delayed. Dolly filled the time with a mini-concert of hits, including “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.” The official opening night for the new musical is September 20 in Los Angeles. From there, it will make it’s way to Broadway early next year. The play stars Allison Janney in the role originated by Lily Tomlin, Stephanie J. Block as the character Jane Fonda played in the movie and Megan Hilty as Dolly's character.

The other great quotes this week were the reactions to the CMA nominations.

Today’s birthday girl (34), Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland. "I almost spilt my tea this morning as I was watching and the nominations kept being added. Being in the Entertainer of the Year category is such an honor. We've been lucky enough to be out on the road with Kenny Chesney for a couple of tours over the last two years. Looks like rock by osmosis really does work!"

From the other half of Sugarland, Kristian Bush, "It is simultaneously humbling and encouraging to be in such amazing company as we are in all of the categories. It is one thing to play shows every week and imagine ourselves striving to become Entertainers of the Year and another thing all together to have the voting members of the CMA believe that it is possible."

The owner of this week’s hottest new song “Love Story”, Taylor Swift, "I can't believe it. I'm so excited! I got to win the Horizon Award last year, and that was a shock. So to be nominated in [the Female Vocalist] category this year ... it's just a really good day!" Be sure to keep a close eye on CMT. Taylor is scheduled to “bump” the regularly scheduled lineup on Friday night to premiere her new video for “Love Story.”

First time nominee James Otto on his New Artist nod, "The only thing I have ever won was 'Most Athletic' in high school, and no disrespect to Ki-Be High, but this CMA nomination blows that one out of the water!"

No stranger to CMA nominations, George Strait, "I'm sitting down here in south Texas bracing for hurricane Ike. This really brightens my day. I look forward to a great celebration of our great music."

Trace Adkins on his first CMA nods in ten years, "'You're Gonna Miss This' has been such a special gift for me this year, so I'm really thrilled that the CMA and the industry recognized the strength of that song. Not only was it one of the biggest hits of my career, when we performed it on the season finale of 'The Celebrity Apprentice,' it helped raise a lot of money for my charity, the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxix network."

From Charles Kelley, the tallest third of double-nominee Lady Antebellum, "Man, we got fifth place locked up for Vocal Group of the Year!"

Miranda Lambert on her two nominations, "I wasn't expecting anything this year, but wow, what way to wake up! There are so many great artists, and I am thankful and ecstatic that the CMA thought I deserved one of those coveted positions."

From the reigning Female Vocalist of the Year, Carrie Underwood, hoping for a repeat, "This is awesome! As an artist you always hope the music you record will touch people's lives. There is nothing more rewarding than to be recognized by your peers and to know your fans are enjoying the same ride!"

And finally, from the 3-time Entertainer of the Year going for number 4, Kenny Chesney, "Mornings like this is where you know the music that means so much to you means something to other people, too. Obviously, I'm trying to capture my own life in these songs, to share what I've seen and what I've learned, but you still want to touch people ... to believe that your life is something other people can see their own lives in. The stories you hear, the way people respond, it lets you know you're doing OK."

The 42nd Annual CMA Awards show will air Wednesday, Nov. 12th on ABC.
