Scotty McCreery is playing his final season of baseball with
Garner High School in North Carolina. Between touring with Brad Paisley, last
year’s American Idol champ finds time to pitch for his hometown team. While
he’s not always there to practice with his teammates, Scotty tells ESPN he and
his dad will throw while on the road, just to stay active. Before his rise to
fame in music, Garner High games would bring about a dozen spectators,
according to Scotty. But, since his time on Idol, they’re seeing around 100-150
in the crowd, with fans traveling from around the country to see him play ball.
Scotty also told ESPN that players on the opposite teams talk smack on the
field, saying, “Oh, ‘American Idol’ kid’s throwing,” “Stick to singing!” But,
he says he gets the “last laugh” when he gets them out later in the game.
