American Idol held their first round of auditions for season ten last week in Nashville, and many hopefuls including Joe Diffie’s children auditioned to become the next star. Joe brags on 28-year-old Parker and 25-year-old Kara, "They both are really good singers and good people. It's pretty gratifying to see their interest in music. I've recorded both of them here at the house, and people rave about how good they sound." Though Joe has all the faith in his children, he is unsure about the audition process of American Idol. He says, “I just don't know how in the world you can glean talent from the thousands of folks who try out, not to mention the one's who are just there to get their mugs on TV." Joe’s rep wouldn’t confirm or deny if his children passed the first round of auditions. Our guess is (at least) one of them did, or why would they be publicizing it? No one talks about the thousands of hopefuls who are rejected. But more information is gathered from those who move on, and it seems likely that it was in that process that the producers learned that he or she was Joe Diffie's kid. It's an angle to publicize.
