It’s a very happy Monday for the Parra Family. Saturday, The Country Station, and our sister stations, gave away the brand new 2010 Harley Davidson Dyna SuperGlide. 200 listeners qualified for a chance to win the bike by listening on-air, entering online, and visiting our live broadcasts. 157 came to Barnett’s Las Cruces Harley Davidson to participate in the final event, and it took nearly until the end of the line to draw the winner. Each participant had a chance to draw a VIN number out of the treasure chest. Maria Parra drew the winning ticket with barely a dozen people still in line behind her. Maria’s a listener to our sister station, Viva Vista 98.7. She told the crowd in her native Spanish that she was very excited to win, and that she would be giving the bike to her son as a Father’s Day present. Her son, Jesse Parra, took delivery of the Dyna Superglide later on Saturday. Congratulations to the Parra Family and thank you to everyone who played. More pictures are found back on the main website and on our social media pages.
Kenny Chesney has wrapped up his latest project – a football documentary, The Boys of Fall. Kenny has been working for a year to create this piece and said, “Anyone who knows me knows how much I look to football, the lessons learned, the experiences, the feelings as a map for living life, having a music career, being the kind of man I want to be.” Kenny used his celebrity status and existing relationships with football icons to create the documentary, noting, “I have the ability to have some pretty amazing conversations with some pretty big coaches… some pretty amazing players… I knew Peyton Manning when he was a UT Vol.” Some of the other football legends featured in the documentary include Superbowl coach Sean Payton, John Madden, Brett Favre, Troy Aikman the former University of Tennessee's Phil Fulmer and University of Alabama’s Nick Saban and Bobby Bowden - as well as high school coaches from Illinois, Texas and Tennessee. Kenny is shopping the documentary around now so no word yet on when and where you’ll be able to watch it.
Taylor Swift was given the Hal David Starlight Award, which pays tribute to young songwriters with promise, at the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York City last week. John Mayer presented her with the award and told the audience, "She's no accident." "You could put her in a time machine in any era and she would have a hit record," he said.
