The End of Another Fan Fair

Big names returned to the CMA Music Fest over the weekend. Citing family vacations and bad timing of tours and record releases as the reason he’s missed the fan fair window over the years, Tim McGraw was back onstage this year, and he was asked to be the host of ABC’s special CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock. The special features footage from the just-completed four-day party and music celebration in Nashville. It will air September 1st.

Taylor Swift mania was running rampant at the CMA Music Festival yesterday as Taylor signed autographs for 13 straight hours. She took a break only long enough to play a four-song set, and then went right back to the mega meet and greet. Taylor’s set-up was an indoor affair, featuring her tour bus, her “T Party” vibe room, a display of her outfits from the tour, and her tour trucks and several pieces of the castle set. For fans not lucky enough to win a wristband for the signing, there was a special line to walk up and take pictures of Taylor signing for others. In addition to the visual look into Taylor’s world, she had Covergirl reps set up in the concourse giving makeovers, American Greetings was handing out free Taylor Swift-designed greeting cards, Verizon allowed you to make a music video with Taylor and there was a Taylor standee to take a picture with in case you missed the real girl. ….. In other Taylor news, a new iPhone app was released yesterday. The $3 app is called Mix Me In2 Taylor. The app comes with two pre-loaded songs, and fans will be able to sing with Taylor's band or break the song down into separate instrument tracks in order to become Taylor’s guitarist, for example. More songs will become available after the app officially launches June 20th.

And finally, fans were delighted to see the return of Rascal Flatts to the autograph area of the CMA Music Fest. Gary, Jay, and Joe Don’s appearance included a short acoustic performance, a signing session, and the presentation of plaques commemorating 10 years of No. 1 hits and multiplatinum success. In thanking fans for their continued support, Jay DeMarcus said he and bandmates Gary LeVox and Joe Don Rooney were especially appreciative of those who went out of their way to see them Saturday afternoon. "I got so many tweets from you guys last night about camping out on the sidewalk," he said. Accompanying the fan frenzy, The Flatts performed Saturday night during the festival's nightly concert series at LP Field. The lineup also included Easton Corbin, Randy Houser, Martina McBride and the Zac Brown Band.
