Already Tuesday

The Country Station trusts that you had a pleasant Memorial Day Weekend. So did country music, because it’s a slow Tuesday. But tomorrow night, there will be a lot of activity from a laundry list of names. Don’t forget to watch or set the DVR for the ACM Artist of the Decade special.

Over the last 40 years, the Academy of Country Music has named five individuals Artist of the Decade. Now, there’s a new-fangled invention: television. So guess what? George Strait can be the first Artist of the Decade to be on TV with his own ceremonial special. Marty Robbins didn’t get that at the end of the 1960’s. Loretta Lynn didn’t get that at the end of the 1970’s. A special for Alabama at the end of the 1980’s? No way. Not even Garth Brooks got a special at the end of the 1990’s. But George is the first Artist of the Decade for the 21st Century, so why not utilize a modern medium? Perhaps by the end of the ‘teens, the special will be on the internet. Anyway, watch Garth Brooks, Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Jamie Foxx, Faith Hill Jack Ingram, Alan Jackson, Jamey Johnson, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Montgomery Gentry, John Rich, LeAnn Rimes, Blake Shelton, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban and Lee Ann Womack pay tribute to George Strait tomorrow night on CBS.
