Out in the wide, wide world of country music, Garth Brooks made a couple of command performances. This past weekend, Garth played two “thank you” concerts for two pro hockey teams whose members donated a significant amount of money to his Teammates For Kids Charity. "We had to keep it secret, so it wasn't a mob scene," said Jason Sheer, owner of the club that hosted the private concert. "Garth didn't want a microphone and he didn't want to be on the stage. It was set up like a campfire scene: He wanted him, his guitar and a bar stool. There were about 60 people there, mostly from the Preds, and nobody was more than five or six feet away from Garth." Garth was said to be dressed casually and in a subdued, storytelling mood, talking about different stages of his life and playing songs that had molded his life and career. Some of those songs were his own, and some were covers from Bob Seger, James Taylor and others. "He was there for about three hours," Jason said, "and you could hear a pin drop. It's not every day that a legend like that walks in and plays guitar for you." Garth didn’t mingle after the show. He left immediately to fly to Detroit to do a similar concert for the Red Wings that night.
Last week we told you about the rumors of Toby Keith making a movie with Hilary Duff. Those rumors are cutting teeth as production offices for the film are being set up in Wilmington, NC. Crews will be working on location for about five weeks to complete the project. The film is based on the William Gay novel, Provinces of the Night. It will be produced by Jay McPhaul and directed by Shane Taylor. In addition to the trade mentions of Toby and Hilary in the flick, feature players include Pell James and Bruce McGill. No word on when or how the movie will be released.
