News From Around The Country
Keith Urban has named his upcoming album. Defying Gravity was taken from the lyrics of one of the songs. Keith says, “It just struck me at the time as a phrase that really defined the joyous, optimistic and uplifting spirit that seemed to show itself while making the album." Brooks & Dunn adds a little more to their chart legacy this week as “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” – featuring Reba McEntire – hits the Top 10. This is Brooks & Dunn’s 41st Top 10 single, which means they have now passed Alabama as the duo or group with the most Top 10 country singles in the 19-year history of Nielsen BDS-monitored airplay. The original version of the song is on the Cowboy Town album, but demand for the special radio version featuring Reba has sparked its release as a digital single on February 10th. Neal McCoy is getting back out among country fans this summer as he heads out on a US and Canadian tour. Keith Anderson has joined Tim McGraw in halping to raise funds and awareness for the Tug McGraw Foundation. Keith says, “The goal is to improve the quality of life for brain tumor patients, families and caregivers and to increase awareness of the disease."

And finally, chalk up another on-the-road adventure for Jimmy Wayne. Last week, while he was in Chicago for a performance, water pipes burst at the resort where he was staying. Jimmy recalls, "I was dressed and getting ready to go do a sound check. I was making my way (there) and all of a sudden I saw a bunch of people running. I didn't know what to think. I turned around and went back to the lobby area expecting to see someone having a heart attack, but it was water coming down from the ceiling and pouring all over the counter and the floor. It looked like the entire lobby was going to cave in. I noticed there was a lot of antique carpets and tables. It was going to get wet and be ruined, so I just jumped in and started helping." Jimmy ended up helping the resort staff evacuate dozens of guests as well as moving furniture away from the water.
"I was filthy when I got finished,” Jimmy continues, “and then I noticed there was 20 or 30 fans standing around taking pictures. It was really embarrassing because I wasn't doing it at all to be called a hero, and then someone said that and I was like, 'Man, that's a little too much.' " The show that night went on as scheduled and Jimmy says, “We rocked the Casbah!"
