Birthdays, Anniversaries, and Holidays

Ready for Christmas? It’s only 72 days away. Or 10 ½ weeks. Whichever way you want to look at it. When you’re ready, the market will be eager to greet you this year. Among your choices, the new Taylor Swift fashion dolls, dressed in outfits from her videos. The “Picture To Burn” doll comes complete with a tiny replica of the Taylor’s famous glittery guitar. Also be on the lookout for Taylor’s new line of signature sun dresses in the clothing department next to her line of jeans. One can only imagine that a line of boots will be next to complete the signature fashion statement.

While you’re planning ahead, look one week further on the calendar and get ready for New Year’s 2009! Trace Adkins and Lynyrd Skynyrd are already planning the party. Er, parties! In the first known attempt to swap concert crowds, Trace will open for Skynyrd in Nashville while Skynyrd is opening for Trace in Pikeville, KY. Then each takes a flight and headlines the opposite show. Simple? What would be fun would be for fans to make an Amazing Race-like attempt to grab airline tickets to follow their guy or group to the next show!

Holidays aside, back here in October, it’s The Grand Ole Opry’s 83rd Birthday this Month. Craig Morgan will be inducted, and Little Jimmy Dickens celebrates 60 years as a member of the cast. The longest running radio program on the air was first broadcast on WSM, October 5, 1925. After a few weeks of adjustment, the production moved into new studios and hired George D. Hay as the announcer who would introduce the newly christened WSM Barn Dance on November 28, 1925, the popularly acknowledged birth date. However, the big celebration took place this past weekend, so to keep the party rolling, don’t miss your chance to call in and claim a How Great Thou Art: Gospel Favorites from the Grand Ole Opry CD during Monday Music Madness!
