DJ Debate

Help! Sheila and Dana are in disagreement over Bucky Covington’s “I’ll Walk.” Your help is needed to settle the debate.

Dana says that I’ll Walk is a very sad, heart wrenching song, and she just bawls all the way through it. The girl gets run over by a car. Shocking and sad. The girl ends up in the hospital and we find out that she can’t walk. Very sad. But of course with the help of her boyfriend, she goes through all the pain of therapy and learning to walk again. Heart-wrenchingly sad. She’s at her wedding in a wheelchair, but her daddy will help her walk down the aisle, even through all that pain! Touching, poignant, and SAD! Dana needs three tissues and a hankie to make it through I’ll Walk.

Sheila says that the song is not so much sad as it is inspirational. Yes the guy makes a bad move when he says, “I don’t know what you’re crying for.” That was his first mistake. But the guy redeems himself. He’s only 18 years old, yet he demonstrates great strength of character when he chooses to stand by his girlfriend through all the weeks and months of therapy, rather than running away and abandoning a disabled person. And then despite the disability, he still asks her to marry him, proving that a broken body is in no way a representation of the person’s true worth. It’s an inspiring moment when she’s well enough to rise from the wheelchair and walk. Sheila doesn’t need any tissues - just paper to take notes to distribute to those in the world that need to learn how to treat the disabled like the people that they are.
